The front section of the barrel has now been removed. In addition all rivets have been removed from the foundation ring to enable it to be removed shortly. This has to be done as it was found that the outer wrapper plates of the firebox were grooved just above the foundation ring, a not uncommon fault that develops after time on many steam loco boilers. The lower sections, about 6", will be replaced with new plate that will be welded and re-riveted
