All good restoration projects start with the removal of bits that are unusable. The generally poor quality of the wooden sides necessitated their removal, with planks that could be re-used being put to one side. The van is pictured some hours later with the sides fully removed to allow the metal frame / corner posts to be needlegunned and painted Loose and rotten floorboards have also been removed exposing the underframe. The van is unfitted, meaning that it doesn`t have vacuum brakes that can be operated by the engine leaving the underframe uncluttered with brake rigging and cylinders. Piles of removed wood are stacked nearby. The role of the mop in the proceedings remains unclear. A full side shot of the wagon taken from 5637 on the adjacent road. A important conference to decide on the next task to tackle is being held.
