Lady Nan`s overhaul gets underway starting with the stripping of smokebox components. The manifold and joining pipework is removed. The blast pipe halves and ejector exhaust removed. With the tank and cab removed, work can begin to prepare for the boiler to be lifted. The cab roof removed. The tank removed. The eccentrics and horn ties are removed and cleaned up ready for inspection. The boiler is removed from the frames and loaded onto the wagon where it can be worked on. The frames are lifted from the wheels and sat on frame trolleys. Nigel machines the new coupling rod brasses. The regulator stuffing box mounting on the backhead of the boiler has received some attention. The jointing face has been ground flat and the studs renewed. Once the frames were lifted off the wheels, the wheels are cleaned.

After being satisfied that all is good with the boiler, the inspector leaves his mark! After the successful boiler test, the boiler was lifted back into the frames and then the lagging and cladding was refitted. A view of the lagging and cladding.
