The ESR has embarked on an major project to improve public access to its Mendip Vale Station at the West end of the line, with the construction of a permissive footpath which will run from Maesdown Road bridge to the station. This path, which will be about 800 yards in length, will follow the boundary fence of the railway and will allow passengers to disembark from the train at Mendip Vale and explore the network of Somerset footpaths ? and public houses ? in the area. An additional benefit of the path is that it will run through most of the best photographic locations on the line, and should greatly facilitate the taking of photographs.

It is hoped that the footpath will open in April and prove to be a popular additional attraction through the summer season. Currently working parties are assembling at Cranmore Depot every weekend at 9:30am and anybody who wishes to help would be extremely welcome.
