Cranmore Water Tank

For many years the scope of operations at the ESR has been limited by the lack of proper facilities for watering locomotives at Cranmore. Locos needing water have either had to return to Cranmore Depot to visit the water column or have had to be filled from the hosepipe at the end of the platform, a process which is unsatisfactory both because it is slow, and also because a locomotive with a fire hose hanging from its tank is not exactly photogenic.

Suitable Water Tanks, similar to one show in the photo (which is at Loughborough on the Great Central Railway), have recently been found and are available if the necessary funds can be found. Therefore, an appeal has been launched to raise the £3500 required to buy and transport these tanks to Cranmore. The tanks are in excellent condition and so after a little refurbishment, they can be erected at Cranmore at little extra cost.

If you are interested in helping this project, the appeal letter and donation form can be found at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, if you are unable to donate to the project, but would like to help the project in other ways, please contact us.
